As we continue to share our exciting lineup of live productions and programs with you, the health and safety of audiences, artists, staff, and the entire community are our highest priority. Through close consultation with medical and public health officials, we present below a set of policies for attending a play or event at The Old Globe.
Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID-19 PCR Test
All patrons age 12 or older who attend a performance or event at The Old Globe—whether in one of our three theatres or on our outdoor Copley Plaza—will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and present proof of vaccination, or present negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance.
“Fully vaccinated” is defined by the CDC as being at least 14 days after the receipt of the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (such as the currently available Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna) or one dose of a single-dose vaccine (like Johnson & Johnson).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is 1) the physical COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued to the patron at the time of vaccination, 2) a photograph of the patron’s COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, or 3) a digital vaccination record. All residents of California may request a digital vaccination record at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
For patrons under the age of 12, whose age does not yet permit vaccination, we recommend taking a COVID-19 PCR test before attending the Globe to ensure they are healthy and free of COVID-19, though it is not required.
To find testing locations and to schedule a free COVID-19 test, visit San Diego County’s Test Scheduler at www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/community_epidemiology/dc/2019-nCoV/testing.html
All documents will be checked by The Old Globe staff members before patrons will be admitted to the theatre or event space. The Old Globe reserves the right to deny admission to any patron who does not provide the necessary documentation or follow any COVID-19-related policy.
Wearing Masks at the Globe
All patrons, including patrons under the age of 12, must wear masks at all times while indoors, regardless of vaccination or testing status. This includes our two indoor theatres (Old Globe Theatre and Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre), as well as all restrooms and the Helen Edison Gift Shop.
It is recommended, but not required, that patrons wear masks while on the Globe’s Copley Plaza, including while attending events scheduled on the plaza.
For events in our outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, mask requirements vary. Please see each event’s webpage for specific information.
Food and Drinks
For performances of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Ebenezer Scrooge’s BIG San Diego Christmas Show, food and drinks are not allowed in the theatre.
