The Whole Megillah: The Red Beads

Summary

By Rinne B. Groff
Based on The Singer of His Sorrows by Osip Dymov
Adapted by Adrian Guo-Silver and Rinne Groff
From a translation by Adrian Guo-Silver

When a father’s bedtime story magically comes to life, his young daughter is plunged into the world of a poor shtetl poet, desperately in love with a woman who spurns him. With great wit and even greater heart, The Red Beads explores the beauty—and the pain—of letting love triumph over logic.

The Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival is filled with a rich selection of arts and cultural events. The festival offers opportunities to experience theatre, dance, and music reflecting Jewish experiences.

Each year, we select several new plays with a relationship to Judaism in order to develop new, unproduced, and unapologetically Jewish work for the American Theatre. Each play will receive a workshop and access to a dramaturg, director, actors, stage manager, and culminate in a performance during the festival. This festival builds stronger partnerships with interested theaters across the nation and fosters a network of theatre professionals towards supporting such work.
