The Old Globe sends its profound thanks to the Globe Guilders. For 67 years, this volunteer auxiliary dedicated countless hours to the Globe, raising funds and awareness for the theatre’s artistic and arts engagement programs. They fed our artists at first rehearsal meet-and-greets, adopted the students in The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program, welcomed guests with food and smiles at December Nights, volunteered their skills in every department of the Globe, raised money through the tremendously successful annual fundraiser Guilders Fashion Show, and so much more.

Theatre survives because of loyal and loving supporters, and the Globe Guilders were paragons of the belief that theatre matters. Though the group came to an end in 2022, the impact they’ve made on this institution will last for many years to come. Thank you, Globe Guilders, for everything you have given us.

Founded by Craig Noel and Irma Macpherson in 1955 as a volunteer auxiliary, the Globe Guilders have been an essential part of the Globe family. The organization has over 200 members, and together they volunteered thousands of hours each year in areas throughout the theatre:

  • Served as Globe ambassadors in the community
  • Provided treats and an inviting atmosphere on the first day of rehearsal for each production
  • Partnered with each of the students in The Old Globe/University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program
  • Coordinated and ran the activities on the Globe Plaza during December Nights
  • Volunteered in the Globe’s administrative offices, costume shop, and Technical Center
  • Much more!

Each year, their largest annual fundraiser was a beautiful Fashion Show presented with Neiman Marcus, which raised over $100,000 to support the Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs.

The women listed below served as outstanding Presidents of The Old Globe’s auxiliary organization, the Globe Guilders. They led with wisdom, dignity, and grace, and gave hours upon hours leading scores of volunteers who all helped the Globe generously for many years. We thank them for their tireless service to the Globe and by extension the San Diego arts community at large.
