While The Old Globe does not offer a formal internship program, individual departments sometimes have openings for interns for various projects. Any college student, college graduate, or community member may contact the Arts Engagement Department if interested in internship opportunities. Please send a cover letter describing your interest and goals for your internship as well as a resume to GlobeLearning@TheOldGlobe.org. All internships are unpaid unless otherwise noted.
The Old Globe is currently offering the following internships:
The Old Globe seeks college students interested in applying for an internship in our Artistic department this summer, focused in our Literary department. This is an unpaid part-time internship, available for college credit, approximately September – December (Fall Semester).
Interns should have a strong background in theatre and a commitment to learning about the day-to-day operations of the artistic department of a large regional theatre company. Daily tasks to include: script reading and correspondence, season selection research, assistance with auditions and casting, maintenance of script and headshot databases, reading and circulating industry news, and additional activities as assigned.
The intern should expect to be included in weekly staff meetings, be a part of ongoing conversations about the artistic work of the theatre, attend shows at The Old Globe, and get exposure to a variety of staff members in many departments.
Please submit a cover letter that details your interest in and qualifications for the position, a resume or list of relevant experience, and a list of references to Annette Nixon at anixon@TheOldGlobe.org. Application review will begin September 1.
We are currently accepting stage management internship applications for the 2016-2017 season:
Please submit your application as soon as possible.
Applicants should have a strong interest in professional stage management. Interns will work alongside AEA stage managers throughout all aspects of the rehearsal process. Interns will be involved in daily rehearsals, technical rehearsals, production meetings, and understudy rehearsals. There will be opportunities to observe the calling of shows, backstage operations, etc. The Old Globe is one of the country’s finest regional theatres, attracting nationally known actors, directors and designers. The stage management internship is a full-time commitment, six days a week. A typical internship lasts eight weeks, though the length of internship could be adapted to fit school schedules.
It is the responsibility of the intern to coordinate class credit with the intern’s school. The Old Globe will be happy to cooperate with your institution to complete any necessary paperwork.
At this time, stage management internships at The Old Globe are not paid positions. Interns will be considered company members, however, and will receive other perks such as complimentary tickets and free entrance to Balboa Park attractions.
Please send a cover letter, resume and two letters of recommendation to:
