While The Old Globe does not offer a formal internship program, individual departments sometimes have openings for interns for various projects. Any college student, college graduate, or community member may contact the Arts Engagement Department if interested in internship opportunities. Please send a cover letter describing your interest and goals for your internship as well as a resume to GlobeLearning@TheOldGlobe.org. All internships are unpaid unless otherwise noted.

School in the Park Intern

Learning Opportunity:

Work with an experienced Old Globe Teaching Artist in the classroom with 5th, 6th and 7th grade student to support the School in the Park program (www.schoolinthepark.net). This is a hands-on authentic learning experience for younger students to dive deeply into the world of Shakespeare and theatre. Intern would offer classroom support to the Teaching Artist, assisting with classroom management, and facilitating student interaction and involvement in hands-on activities. This internship includes on-the-job training in theatre based activities that support California classroom learning standards.

Skills/Experience Desired:

Multilingual; Some classroom and/or mentoring experience would be helpful; be a people person; be capable of developing strong and flexible interpersonal communication skills; be able to assist and collaborate as needed in the classroom. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Schedule: (Must be available for all dates and times)

  • October 30-Nov 3 -- 9-3:30 Daily, except Thursday (6th grade)
  • December 11-15 -- 9-3:30 Daily, except Thursday (6th grade)
  • January 16-26 11:30-4:30 (5th Grade SITP )

Community Engagement Intern

GFA Spring Tour 2018: March through July; 1 per year

  • Hours: TBD, 20-25 hours per week

GFA Fall Tour 2018: August through November; 1 per year

  • Hours: TBD, 20-25 hours per week

Learning Opportunity:

Community outreach and engagement through scouting and planning the engagement portion of the Globe’s annual touring program, Globe for All, for a county wide tour. The CE Intern will focus on identifying and connecting with new partners, locations, & organizations around San Diego County to invite to Globe for All, become knowledgeable about who they are and what they do, barriers to attendance, and why GFA would a great, mutually beneficial partnership. CE Intern may also: assist with the development of engagement activities, curriculum, and materials, help document & track outreach process, create GFA Venue Handbook and maintain tour schedule, help with RSVPs for staff, volunteers, and partner organizations, help determine marketing mix and disseminate marketing materials to community members and identified zip codes., help identify community bridge builders (advocates), invite partners to Meet-n-Greet and help plan the program for the annual Bridge Builders dinner for new Globe for All partners and organizations, and attend community meetings and present about GFA.

Skills/Experience Desired:

Detail-oriented, self-starter, computer-savvy, problem-solver/solution-driven, clear communicator, works well under pressure, has ability to meet project deadlines, passionate about community-building and engagement; friendly.

Studio Youth Mentor Intern

Summer 2018:  July 16 through August 13th; 2 per year

  • Hours: Monday through Friday 9am-5pm

Learning Opportunity:

Support the Shakespeare Summer Studio team logistically and administratively, offer guidance and support to the students as needed, and to help the Stage Manager with daily operational tasks.  Intern would offer classroom support assisting with classroom management, and facilitating student interaction and involvement in hands-on activities.

Skills/Experience Desired:

Some classroom and/or mentoring experience would be helpful; be a people person; be capable of developing strong and flexible interpersonal communication skills; must have experience in Acting, Directing, and/or Production; have a willingness to jump into the trenches and get done whatever needs to get done (aka: “self-starter”).  Must be able to pass a criminal background check
