SAN DIEGO (May 19, 2022) — The Old Globe announced a fall full of Shakespeare with the return of the Globe for All Tour, our free Shakespeare tour that reaches locations throughout San Diego County, now in its eighth year of making theatre matter to more people! The tour will run from Tuesday, November 1 through Sunday, November 20, with opening night on Thursday, November 3, 2022. The Globe will present Henry 5 in the run-up to the previously announced production of Henry 6 next year, which will mark the Globe’s completion of the entire Shakespeare canon during its 2023 Summer Shakespeare Festival. In addition, the talented students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program will present their M.F.A. fall showcase of Measure for Measure, directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg. This limited engagement will run from Saturday, November 12 through Sunday, November 20 2022.
“It’s always exciting to announce The Old Globe’s next productions of Shakespeare, and these two shows are no exceptions,” said Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. “Measure for Measure, with its complex views of how gender and power intersect, feels more contemporary than ever at a moment when our society is reckoning with precisely these questions. Delicia Turner Sonnenberg’s production will be bracing, fresh, and alive, and the students in training at The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program will bring urgency and skill to this rich text. Henry 5 is particularly exciting this year, as the Globe prepares to produce its sequel, Henry 6, in the summer of 2023. Shakespeare’s most exacting look at war and its consequences is deeply interested in heroism, leadership, and the impact of war on the citizens of the countries that wage it, and touring this play to venues throughout our community will spark urgent and extraordinary conversations. This is what theatre is meant to do. All of us at the Globe are looking forward to sharing both of these wonderful productions with San Diego.”
The Globe for All Tour company will bring this production to various economically, geographically, and culturally diverse communities throughout San Diego County, including Old Globe Community Partner venues from San Ysidro to Oceanside. The free-admission Globe for All Tour will run for three weeks. Venue dates, times, and locations will be announced at a later date.
No tickets or registrations are required to attend the free, open performances in the community. Seating will be first-come, first-served and will depend on the venue’s capacity. More information will be available at www.TheOldGlobe.org at a later date.
A joint venture of The Old Globe and the University of San Diego, the Shiley Graduate Theatre Program nationally recruits seven students each year to participate in an intensive two-year, year-round course of graduate study in classical theatre. In 1987, The Old Globe and the University of San Diego established a graduate acting program. The result has been one of the most acclaimed classical training programs in the United States, receiving hundreds of applications each year. It has become one of the most competitive graduate acting programs in the country. The program’s graduates have made their mark in the profession. They have performed extensively on and Off Broadway, in regional theatres, in feature films, and on television. They have also founded successful theatre companies, written award-winning plays and screenplays, and performed throughout Europe and Canada. One notable graduate is Jim Parsons, the Golden Globe and Emmy Award–winning star of “The Big Bang Theory.”

The Tony Award–winning The Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional not-for-profit regional theatres.
