SAN DIEGO (June 18, 2018; updated July 24)—The Globe Guilders are pleased to announce their 28th annual fashion show and luncheon, Celebrating Couture 2018, presented by Neiman Marcus, to benefit The Old Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs. Once again, Neiman Marcus is producing The Art of Fashion, an exclusively curated show featuring the Fall collections of several celebrated designers, including an exclusive preview of 18 gowns from Zac Posen’s Pre-Fall 2018 Collection. Celebrating Couture 2018 will take place on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in the Costa Del Mar Ballroom of the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.

Each year, the Globe Guilders Fashion Show features couture expertly selected by Neiman Marcus from the elite designers they represent, including Posen, Naeem Khan, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, and Marchesa. From New York to Milan, fashion has become the creative platform to reflect a world of assertion and empowerment. The 2018 Fall trends include peacock hues in an eye-catching palette of saturated blues and greens; leather everything, matte or patent from top to toe; power tailoring, strong shoulders, and double-breasted shapes; and anytime sequins. Mix, match, and layer fierce animal prints—leopard, zebra, tiger, and more. Accessorize with Western or lace-up boots, chunky but chic; top-flap handbags; smoky-crystal and jet-black jewelry; and glowing, luminous, selfie-perfect skin that makes every social media post perfection. Attendees will see how top designers bring these disparate trends to life on the catwalk, and then they can shop to take them home!

This year the Globe Guilders Fashion Show is honoring Peggy Matthews as a beacon of fashion and a longtime supporter of The Old Globe. Fashion informed most of Peggy’s life, 17 years of which she spent as Midwest Editor at Mademoiselle magazine, based in Chicago. As part of her responsibilities, she traveled across America to stage fashion events. She mingled with iconic couturiers and also enthusiastically worked with student fashion organizations. After she retired, she and her husband Bob moved to San Diego, where she was persuaded to accept the position of Regional Promotions Director for the Broadway department store. She was a consummate volunteer, managing publicity for a myriad of organizations here in San Diego. With her background deeply imbedded in fashion, the fact that Peggy gave generous monetary gifts to the Globe Guilders and The Old Globe costume department surprises no one. Hats off to Peggy!

Guests will be greeted with a champagne reception at 10:00 a.m. in the sunlit foyer—where the competition begins with the chance to bid on silent auction items. New this year is a virtual bidding opportunity through the Gesture mobile application (http://www.guilders18.gesture.com). The live auction and opportunity drawing begin at 12:00 noon in the ballroom, followed by the fabulous fashion show and delicious lunch. After the show, Neiman Marcus will present a one-of-a-kind boutique for browsing and shopping in the foyer.

Globe Guilder President Kim Neapole is the proud Chair of Celebrating Couture 2018. “We are thrilled to be working with Neiman Marcus again this year,” said Neapole. “The grand finale of Zac Posen gowns will be spectacular! It is such a privilege not only to be a part of this beautiful event, but also to bring awareness to the important work that The Old Globe is doing in San Diego.” The proceeds will continue to expand the impact the Globe makes in the community and will help make theatre matter to more people. Over 500 supporters of the Globe are expected to attend this important event benefitting the Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs, including prominent philanthropists, heads of corporations, and representatives of major organizations.

All serious arts lovers and fashionistas are invited to support this can’t-miss staple of San Diego’s fashion calendar. Tickets start at $155. For information on reserving a table or a seat at the Fashion Show, please call Joydelee Marrow at (858) 382-1672 or visit www.Guilders18.gesture.com or www.globeguilders.org/fashionshow2018. The Omni La Costa Resort & Spa is located at 2100 Costa Del Mar Road, Carlsbad, CA 92009.

Your support is also welcome through the donation of an item or gift certificate to the silent auction. All donors will have their contributions beautifully displayed at the silent auction, and their names will be listed in the souvenir program distributed to local media and viewed by over 500 distinguished guests. For questions regarding participating in the silent auction, please call Pamela Maudsley-Merrill at (619) 593-1033.

As The Old Globe’s volunteer auxiliary, the Globe Guilders have a long-standing tradition of supporting the diverse programs of this unique theatre—one of San Diego’s largest not-for-profit performing arts organizations and a national treasure—and its year-round programming on three stages and throughout San Diego’s communities, reaching 250,000 people on its campus every year. This dedicated membership of women and men utilizes its collective talents and strengths to benefit The Old Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs, helping to make theatre matter to more people. These innovative programs, which touched the lives of nearly 40,000 San Diegans last year, include Globe for All, live professional theatrical productions performed in community centers, libraries, correctional facilities, and schools throughout the region; AXIS; coLAB; Behind the Curtain; Bard Basics; Reflecting Shakespeare; Community Voices; Breaking Bread; Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio; Behind-the-Scenes and Bard Experience Tours; Free Student Matinees; Grinch Children’s Initiatives; sensory-friendly performances; School in the Park; seminars and forums; program translations; professional development for teachers; Globe Learning Opportunities for Impact (including Technical Center internships and programs); and The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program.

The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Managing Director Timothy J. Shields, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s artistic and arts engagement programs. Numerous world premieres such as the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Meteor Shower, Bright Star, Allegiance, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the annual holiday musical Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! have been developed at The Old Globe and have gone on to enjoy highly successful runs on Broadway and at regional theatres across the country.
