Make Music San Diego

Thursday, June 21, 2018
12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Copley Plaza at The Old Globe

Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Join the You Are Musical Project on June 21st at The Old Globe in celebration of the annual Make Music Day! Free to the public.

You Are Musical Project (Y.A.M.P.) is a free participatory community music making initiative in San Diego, CA, that brings together ancient and modern musical tools to engage everyday people in making music together in public spaces! The creators of the You Are Musical Project believe that every person is musical, and this experiential installation is fun, connecting and full of discovery for all who come across it!

No previous musical experience is required to join in, just step right up to any of the digital instrument stations, live microphones or percussion instruments and start making music right away with everyone. We’ll show you how!

Y.A.M.P. is sponsored by Beautiful Sounds - Intuitive Music, which developed this program as a fun and free community outreach to provide anyone easy access to music making opportunities. You can visit Beautiful Sounds online, to see all of the incredible handcrafted instruments that are easy to learn and play, and learn more about You Are Musical Project: www.playbeautifulsounds.com

AXIS is supported by a grant from The James Irvine Foundation. Financial support is provided by The City of San Diego.
