Children's Casting Notice 2021

A Note from the Casting Department:
The Globe is committed to the health and safety of our audiences and artists. In order to begin the production process in a timely manner there will be NO in person Grinch auditions. Callbacks will be scheduled on a need only basis.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION:

Seeking: Girls ages 6-10 for the role of Cindy-Lou Who
Boys and girls ages 6-12 for the Who Family and Child Ensemble roles
Boys and girls ages 13-15 for the Teen Ensemble
1st Rehearsal: Cindy-Lou Who - October 9, 2021
Who Family and Child/Teen Ensemble - October 13, 2021
1st Preview: November 3, 2020
Opening Night: November 7, 2021
Closing Night: December 31, 2021
Performances: All children are double cast and will perform approximately five to six times per week, including several weekday mornings matinees
Salary: All children will be paid $14.00 per hour, regardless of role
Eligibility: All children must be residents within San Diego County. These roles are intended to be performed by children from the community who are not professional actors. Therefore, children who are members of a performers Union including Actors' Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA will not be considered. In order to be considered for the role of Cindy-Lou Who, your child must be between 6-10 years old, no taller than 50" and weigh no more than 55lbs. In order to be considered for Who Family and Child Ensemble, your child must be between the ages of 6-12, no taller than 60", and weigh no more than 100lbs. In order to be considered for Teen Ensemble, your child must be between ages 13-15, no taller than 65", and weigh no more than 125lbs. These terms are non-negotiable.

COVID Guidelines: Per guidance from Actors Equity Association, the Old Globe will require all eligible individuals within the Production Group to be fully vaccinated to participate in GRINCH 2021. The Production Group is defined as: All actors, creative team members, crew, and parents/family members/guardians who will interact with the Production Group within Globe spaces. For those who are not eligible or whom have a medical or religious exemption - including, at the time of this announcement, children under 12 years old - these individuals must adhere to weekly PCR testing and all mitigation measures, including masking, that are advised at the time of rehearsal/production.

Special Note: We do not currently have information on if your child will be required to miss time from school (amount of time varies according to the role) during rehearsal and performance schedule. PLEASE NOTE: Our plan to produce is predicated up on following all state and county health and safety standards. We will continue to update the community as we know more information. A detailed letter outlining the terms of the contract will be released in the event we decide to produce.

VIDEO AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Old Globe is seeking 6 to 15-year-old Male, Female, Trans, Gender Queer, and Non-binary child actors of all ethnicities including, but not limited to: African American, African, Asian, Caribbean, Indigenous, LatinX, Middle Eastern, Native American, and Pacific Islander.

Submission Checklist: Please send one (1) e-mail to CASTING@THEOLDGLOBE.ORG with ALL submission requirements:

  • one (1) photo of your child
  • one (1) resume (if applicable)
  • one (1) completed info sheet. If you are able, open and fill out the editable PDF document and save it with the file name as instructed below. OR, if unable to use the PDF, please scroll down to the Audition Information Sheet text at the bottom, select and copy all, and paste the entire text into the body of the email. Then fill out the necessary information.
  • one (1) full length video of your child singing both WHATCHAMAWHO and WELCOME CHRISTMAS, YouTube links available below.

Guidelines: All submissions received before August 13, 2021 will be considered. Upon receipt of your FULLY COMPLETED, submission you will receive a confirmation receipt. No further communications is needed once you receive your confirmation receipt. Please only send one (1) e-mail that contains all requested information, or you risk your submission being incomplete. Only complete submissions will be considered.

Please label each file you submit in the following format: LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME and the first three (3) letters of what the file is, i.e.; JONES_DAN-RES, JONES_DAN-PIC, or JONES_DAN-VID.

PLEASE NO CALLS OR E-MAILS AFTER YOUR COMPLETED SUBMISSION.

TO CREATE/SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO: Please ensure your recording device has both audio and visual capabilities, as separate audio/visual files will NOT be accepted. For ease of use, we encourage you to use your cell phone's video camera. Children should be framed to see their whole body and, if possible, in front facing camera and to shoot in vertical mode. Children should start their video stating their name and age. Please do not have them film any other supplemental material to their song - i.e., monologues, dances, or acrobatics. Activities outside of singing will not improve potential casting and will not be reviewed.

If you are able to upload your video to a private hosting site, i.e., - Vimeo or YouTube, please paste the link into the body of your submission email. Please ensure that any necessary passwords are provided and that the file is able to be downloaded on our end.

If you are able to attach your video directly to your e-mail, please follow the file name style guidelines above to label your submission.

If you are not able to upload to a hosting site or attach your video, please follow the below directions to insert your child's video into the body of your submission email directly from your phone's camera roll.

FROM AN IOS DEVICE

  1. Open the Mail app on your iOS device.
  2. Click on the "Compose" icon in the bottom right corner to compose a new email.
  3. In the Message section, long tap on the screen to open the editing menu (the cut, copy, paste menu).
  4. Click on the right arrow.
  5. Select "Insert Photo or Video" to attach a photo ot video from the camera roll.

FROM AN ANDROID DEVICE

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Gmail.
  2. Tap Compose.
  3. Tap Attach.
  4. Tap Insert from Drive.
  5. Tap the file you want to add.
  6. Tap Select.
  7. Tap Send
