Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio

2018 Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio

The Studio will run Monday – Friday, July 16 – August 13, and will culminate in a public performance on Monday, August 13 at 7:00 p.m. on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.

Through a month-long process, high school students or recent graduates receive an intensive curriculum of acting, movement, music, and writing classes as well as training in voice and speech, stage combat, and text. Master classes are offered with Globe artists and staff, many of whom are among the leaders in their fields. These instructors seek to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of Shakespeare’s writing and to use his work as a model for engaging the students with their own experiences. The Studio also incorporates non-Shakespearean material, such as modern music, original texts, and the participants’ own freewrites, in which the group brainstorms topics essential to the story, then breaks out to discover different ways to express them.

Tuition for the four weeks is $725; however, the Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio admits students without regard to their ability to pay. All scholarship students will also receive a bus pass to help with transportation. For more information on the program, please email Studio@TheOldGlobe.org.
