The Conrad Prebys Theatre Center is now under construction, and scheduled to be completed by January 2010 for the Globe’s 75th Anniversary Season.
The Conrad Prebys Theatre Center will herald an exciting new era for The Old Globe, enabling the theatre to produce works at an even higher artistic level, and helping ensure the Globe’s prominent position in the future of American theatre.

The Conrad Prebys Theatre Center will encompass both the new facility under construction and the Old Globe Theatre – the Globe’s flagship theatre with year-round performances on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage. Featuring 580 seats, with superb sightlines and acoustics, the Old Globe Theatre is a magnificent proscenium theatre in which to enjoy the kind of world-class theatrical entertainment you’ll find only at The Old Globe.
The Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre will bring our arena stage productions into the 21st Century, with superior technical facilities and a physical space that affords a broader range of artistic choices, while retaining the intimacy our Cassius Carter audiences cherished. A state-of-the-art arena stage with five rows surrounding the stage, safe and comfortable theatre access for audience and actors, full lighting grid and trap room, and new public restrooms.
As we inaugurate this beautiful new theatre, we want you there to inaugurate your seat. And with only 251 seats, seating will be limited. Secure your priority seating privileges now by purchasing an 8-Play Subscription to our 2008-2009 Season.
The Karen and Donald Cohn Education Center, right above the theatre, is a place to learn and create. The Center’s centerpiece is Hattox Hall, a performance and training space for more than 150. The Education Center will feature a studio dedicated to student activities and a “History of The Old Globe” installation. It will be home to many of the Globe’s audience enrichment activities, serving more than 50,000 each year and featuring spectacular views from the Donald and Darlene Shiley Terrace.
With a new Lady Carolyn’s Pub and dining pavilion, the Globe’s beautiful new plaza will feature a graceful circular design of inlaid bricks and granite pavers, as well as beautiful landscaping and lighting to blend with the Globe’s idyllic Balboa Park surroundings.
