Globe Readers Project

The Old Globe works with committed volunteers who visit dozens of schools five times throughout the spring semester and read aloud to over 1,500 children countywide.

#

These Globe Readers read age and curriculum appropriate stories to their assigned classrooms and challenge the students to create their own original stories. The students submit these stories to The Old Globe and a selection is made to convert several of the student-authored pieces into theatrical works to be performed at the end of the school year in Globe Reader Samplers at the schools, neighborhood venues, and The Old Globe. A book donation is also made to each participating school’s library.

#

The San Diego community can assist in this literacy initiative by donating new children’s books to be presented to the participating school libraries, and by volunteering to be trained as Globe Readers for the coming school year. Proficient readers in different languages are especially needed.
