The Old Globe has long been known for its commitment to producing Shakespeare’s plays to the highest possible standards. The Globe’s first theatre venue was built for Shakespearean productions as part of the California Pacific International Exposition. Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein is widely recognized as one of the leading authorities on the works of Shakespeare. And each summer, the Globe’s renowned Shakespeare Festival takes the stage in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre to produce two of the Bard’s plays for enthusiastic crowds from around Southern California and beyond, who revel in the beautiful productions under the stars in Balboa Park.

To help audiences make the most of their Shakespeare summer, the Globe offers several education and outreach programs that enhance understanding and enjoyment of Shakespeare’s work.
